Giardia lamblia

1 out of 10 people from my region has them (and I live in an endemic region, not only a lot of them are here, in addition the strains are very vicious). Most of this people are carriers, but without any signs. But the chance that we've got giardia lamblia in spite of lyme disease is like a 100 to 1. Lamblias are small, one-celled parasites of the alimentary canal derived from the group of protozoans. In the standard faeces examination, they are detected very rarely. You have to make an Elisa test or the microscopic examination. The disease can be suspected when your signs are inter alia gases in the bowels or very frequent diarrhoea. They usually cause deficiency of magnesium, and their toxins are quite nasty, might give symptoms similar to these with chronic lyme. Keep in mind that metronidazol kills them, so the use of this medicine might give reaction very similar to herx.

Ah, roundworms. They are huge, bad and smelly. Ascariosis affects around 5% of population. It's possible to catch toxocariosis, caused by a worm similar to ascaris, which is undetectable by a classic stool smear. Victim of roundworms usually get alergy symptoms, together with strong toxication. If you suspect ascariosis just use some kind of medicine, like Vermox. These pills are pretty safe.
